In 1842, as a result of the signing of the Treaty of Nanking, Amoy was designated as being a trading port in Fujian. Amoy and Kulangsu swiftly formulated, which resulted in a significant inflow of men and women from neighboring regions for example Quanzhou and Zhangzhou. The mixture of these different accents formed the basis with the Amoy dialect.
